What steps should I take after being arrested as a college student in Connecticut?
If you’re a college student and you get arrested in Connecticut, the first thing that you need to do is contact a lawyer. You need to contact an experienced criminal defense lawyer, not just your dad’s buddy who does real estate closings and wills. The reason that you need to do this is because when you’re in college, sometimes the school itself, such as the University of Connecticut, University of Hartford, University of New Haven, or Eastern, will have ramifications at the school level if you’re arrested, depending on what you’re arrested for.
You need to understand that, if you are in college and you get arrested, you’re not going to really get treated special by anybody because you’re in college. You need a lawyer that much more, because you’re obviously going to school for a reason, to get a more professional job or whatever it is that you want to do with your life, and you need to make sure that one mistake doesn’t eradicate all of the hard work you’ve been putting into it. If this has happened to you, please give me a call. I’ve represented lots of college students, and I know what to do.
