Question:

What should I do if I am charged with assault?

Answer:

What happens when you get charged with an assault charge in Connecticut? It depends on the level of the assault charge. Assault Four is a misdemeanor related to sexual assault that generally took place outside of the person’s clothing. Assault (If the victim were under 16, however, it would be a felony charge.) Assault Three is a Class A Misdemeanor, and can be considered serious. It usually means there was no weapon involved; however, a Class A Misdemeanor is just a stone’s throw away from a Class D Felony in the state of Connecticut. If you get a felony assault charge, that is a more serious charge and typically involves a weapon. ‘Weapon’ can mean many things; it may mean that you slammed someone to the ground and used the ground as your weapon or you used the wall as your weapon.

If you have received any assault charge in the state of Connecticut, you need to hire a lawyer right away. The state will not allow a case to proceed or be disposed of until they make contact with the victim and get feedback from that victim. If you caused serious injuries to someone, you will find yourself in court for a while. You absolutely need to have a lawyer for that. If this is you, give us a call. We can help you through it.
